City of San Francisco is a multi dimensional, multicultural and a very colourful place. With plenty of things to choose from, here is a list of few important events taking place around the year. 1.    February begins with the Chinese New Year. The Chinatown of San Francisco being the largest of its kind outside Asia marks the day with a great parade. This year it is going to be the year of Rabbits. The Parade moves with 200 feet dragon manoeuvred by more than 100 people, martial art groups, lion dancers, Chinese acrobats and many schools marching bands.

2.    St. Patrick’s Day Parade is the Irish festival which draws a huge crowd every year on 17th of March. This year is going to be the 160th annual St. Patrick’s Day Parade. March is also declared as Irish-American Heritage month because of this day.

3.    The Cherry Blossom Festival is celebrated every year and is a dazzling display showcasing the colour and grace of the Japanese culture and the diversity of the Japanese American Community. Today it is a nationwide festival.  This year, the event will take place on the 9th, 10th, 16th and 17th of April at JapanTown. 

4.    San Francisco International Film Festival will start from April 21st and will last till May 5th. The festival is known around the globe for its discoveries in the field of cinematography.

5.    Cinco de Mayo commemorates the Mexican Army’s victory over the French at the battle of Puebla, and Americans celebrate May 5th every year in a Mexican style. The day focuses on promoting heritage and culture of Mexican origin.   

6.    Celebrated every third Sunday of May, the Bay to Breakers is actually a race. More that thousand jogger’s flock around <a rel=”nofollow” onclick=”javascript:_gaq.push(['_trackPageview', '/outgoing/article_exit_link/4676030']);” href=”http://www.wego.com/hotels/united-states/san-francisco”>San Francisco</a> wearing weird and wacky dresses for this fund raising event. The race is of almost 12 km long, originally started to lift us the spirit of San Francisco after the earthquake of 1906.

7.    May 28th and 29th will witness one of the city’s most fabulous traditions, the 33rd San Francisco Carnival. Apart from food and fun activities for every one, the Carnival will also have stages for live musicians.

8.    Union Street Fair is one of the largest free events of San Francisco. This year, the art and craft festival will also have many eco-friendly exhibits and is being organized on June 5th and 6th between Gough and Steiner.

9.    LGBT Parade is the world’s largest gay pride parade happening in San Francisco. Lesbians, gays, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) will come out in the streets on June 26th and 27th, giving the day a carnival feel.

10.    On 4th of July, thousands of people gather in Pier 39 participating in the Water Front Festival to celebrate the American Independence Day.  With performances by local bands, amazing fire works, fun activities, the evening is must-see in San Francisco.

11.    September witnesses the longest continuing annual Blues festival of the world called San Francisco Blues Festival. It is one of the most respected music festivals as many musicians come to participate from all over the world.

12.    San Francisco Jazz Festival is possibly the best jazz festival of the world and it happens continuously for three weeks in October. Many local as well as international artists take pride in performing here.

13.    Halloween and Columbus Day are also celebrated in October.

14.    Apart from Christmas and New Year’s Eve, December is also waited upon because of The Nutcrackers, which is an amazing ballet performance at War Memorial Opera House.
