Amping Up Action With Special Effects

Lights, camera, ACTION!  In today’s film industry there has never been as much action equally matched with special effects and brilliant cinematography.  Action movies have a quality that in many instances stands par with real life.  Now with even more creative technology viewers are not only able to step into the movies at the theatre, but also at home with the increasingly popular 3D technology.  Never before has any generation been able soar through the sky or teleport through dimensions with such amazing realism within the confines of one’s own home.

Remaking many of yesteryear’s best films has become a popular trend in the movie-making industry as of late.  This trend has not avoided the action genre by any means.  Many actors, directors and producers recreate the roles that they themselves grew up idolizing.  This brings back the classics but with a special Hollywood twist that was not available during the first release.  Now movies have computer aided design on their side and, although time consuming, the final result can leave one breathless.

Aside from re-makes, there are several action films that have a long lineage of titles behind them.  What started off as a child/family story, Harry Potter has developed into a mature story line with now adult characters (still within a magical environment, of course) that can now fall under the action category with almost limitless action and anticipation.  When the story first began, production value was at the top of its game, and things have just continued to get better. Over the past ten years or so, the creative wizardry has worked its magic time and time again, only increasing the visual aesthetics and adding a great deal to most of the action.

Harry Potter is not the only movie with amazing action and graphics, but has been a great gauge within the movie industry. It is the only seamless story line to span an entire decade, which has allowed for the progression of detail to be closely monitored.  One could compare this to the evolution that has occurred throughout Hollywood. What once could only be conjured up in one’s imagination can now be seen in vivid detail with High Definition and 3D technologies at their fingertips.

State-of-the-art special effects have been a huge boost for many of today’s most popular action movies. Thinking back, would The Matrix have spawned two sequels without Trinity’s stop-motion aerial assault?
